Tony Oliver, Percussionist and Educator
I am a professional percussionist in the Quad Cities area of the midwest (Davenport IA, Rock Island IL...right on the Mississippi) and in the Adirondack region of upstate New York in the summers. I am an Associate Professor of Music at Augustana College (Rock Island, IL), where I teach all things percussive and direct the second, "all-campus" concert band. I'm a member of the Quad City Symphony Orchestra and the principal percussionist & timpanist of the Lake Placid Sinfonietta. (Those are some of my drums hanging out by Lake Placid.)
Augustana College
Augustana College is a liberal arts college located in Rock Island, IL. It has a strong music department offering degrees in music education, general studies in music, music composition, and music performance. I teach all things percussive including classical and contempory applied studies and methods courses for music educators. I also direct the Augsutana Concert Band, which is the second, "all-campus" band and one of the largest ensembles on campus. If you are interested in percussion at Augustana (or Augustana in general), please contact me. We have a great program!
Private Studio, Camps, Workshops, Lectures
Over the last two decades, I've taught many students of all ages, some of whom have gone on to graduate school, professional playing, or who just wanted to make music a part of their lives. I've also been interested in music for the older adult and was active in the New Horizons movement as a percussion instructor with the Iowa City band for many years and as a teacher at many band camps around the USA. I'm interested in helping anyone learn about percussion or music!
